Mulchers: generally categorised into two types of machine.
- High body with a Y flail. Useful with managing tall grass or crops, especially in a grazing situation. As compared to a slasher, the mulcher will cut the grass into much shorter lengths, which means it falls to the ground where it breaks down. This overcomes long lengths of grass lodging in the canopy of the pasture, which affects stock grazing habits. They are also useful for mulching excessive crop residue. Can also cope with light prunings
- Low body with a hammer flail can be used both on grass and in orchards, parks and gardens. Also useful for problem scrub areas and roadside maintenance. Tends to leave a coarser result than Y flails but copes more easily with heavier prunings.
